Want to save water? Five products you need at home and at work.

Water scarcity is becoming an increasingly urgent issue across Europe. How can we contribute on an individual basis, at home and at work?

Across Europe, population growth, climate change and industry are placing increasing pressure on water resources. Between 2000 and 2022, the public water supply—covering drinking water, household usage and tourism—accounted for 19% of total water abstraction. There lies a significant opportunity to make new choices when it comes to everyday personal water use.

Five Made Blue ambassadors offer water-saving products and inspiration to find new ways of dealing with water, at home and at work.

Harri Smit – Regional Managing Director, CWS Hygiëne Netherlands & Sweden

“

With a conventional tap, water often continues to flow throughout the entire handwashing process, using up to four litres per wash. A sensor tap prevents this by running only when it detects your hands and stopping as soon as they are removed. A sensor tap from CWS Hygiene uses an average of just 0.5 litres per wash, reducing water consumption by up to 70%. It is also touch-free for improved hygiene and automatically flushes every 24 hours to help prevent Legionella growth.

For every sensor tap it rents out, CWS Hygiene contributes 10,000 litres of clean water through Made Blue Foundation. Since the partnership began, this has already provided more than 5.6 million litres of clean drinking water.

Walter Peteri – Owner and Chairman, Quooker

“

Quooker is best known for its boiling-water tap, a convenience that also helps save water. People often overfill a kettle “just to be safe”, whereas a Quooker dispenses exactly the amount of boiling water needed, straight from the tap. A Quooker COMBI tank can save around 3,000 litres of water a year.

Quooker and Made Blue have been working together since 2015 to provide access to clean drinking water. “For us, water simply comes out of the tap. Chilled, sparkling or boiling, however we want it. Elsewhere, people are grateful simply to have water that is safe to drink and won’t make them ill,” says Isabella Tielen, Sustainability Officer at Quooker. Since 2015, the partnership has provided more than 4.2 billion litres of clean drinking water.

“

Eloi Bonte – Co-founder, Luniwave

“

Luniwave unit

Luniwave focuses on another major source of water use: showers, particularly in hotels, gyms and corporate fitness facilities. Guests are invited to set their own water-saving target, while LED lights in the shower show how close they are to reaching it. Those who achieve their goal earn points through a rewards programme. According to Luniwave, this reduces water consumption by an average of 20%—equivalent to around 1.5 million litres a year for an average hotel.

Since 2024, Luniwave has been matching the water saved with contributions to clean drinking water through Made Blue Foundation. So far, the partnership has provided more than 20 million litres of clean drinking water.

Frank van de Ven – CEO, i-team Global

“

Anyone with experience maintaining large spaces the traditional way, with a mop and bucket, knows how much water it can take to get a floor properly clean. According to i-team Global, cleaning around 3,000 square metres this way uses approximately 40 litres of water per day. With the i-mop, a compact, battery-powered scrubber dryer that scrubs and dries in a single movement, this goes down to just 18 litres.

i-team matches every one of those remaining 18 litres with a contribution to clean drinking water, starting from the day each machine leaves the factory. Since the partnership began in 2016, this has provided more than 2 billion litres of clean drinking water.

Jordan Hurley – Founder, Soap2o

“

Soap 2 o range

At Soap2o, the savings come from eliminating the need to transport water around the world. Conventional liquid soap consists largely of water, which is shipped throughout the supply chain—requiring unnecessary plastic packaging and fuel for transport. Soap2o offers a smarter alternative: concentrated refills in compact 100 ml bottles. Simply add water locally and one small refill makes an impressive four litres of soap.

Every Soap2o product sold contributes to Made Blue Foundation’s clean drinking water projects. Since the partnership began in 2022, this has already made almost 30 million litres of clean drinking water available to people who need it most.

Saving water does’nt always require major changes. From the boiler and shower to the way we clean and wash our hands, smarter products can help reduce water use in everyday life.

These five Made Blue ambassadors go one step further: they ensure their water saving products also contribute to clean drinking water where it’s needed most.

Whether at home or at work, choosing water-efficient products help every litre to make a difference.
