25 billion litres on World Water Day 2026

Every year on World Water Day, March 22, we raise awareness for water scarcity
and share the impact we have made together:

Since the start of Made Blue Foundation, we’ re proud to have provided 25 billion litres of clean drinking water, together with more than 600 socially responsible businesses committed to our mission:
#CleanWaterForAll.

25 billion litres sounds like an enormous amount of water, but what does it actually mean?

More than 340,000 people received access to 20 litres of clean water per day, for at least 10 years. Thats almost as much as the entire population of Utrecht in the Netherlands or Nice in France!

Access to clean drinking water makes a huge difference in their lives. It means better health, more safety and time for family, school and work. Or simply to rest, play and be a child.

In 2025, total donations showed strong growth. Our goal is to invest more than €1 million per year in clean drinking water and we’re getting very close.

Companies from a wide range of sectors with high water use mirror their water consumption through our a Liter for a Liter programme.

The total impact reached includes donations linked to our reusable glass, aluminium and Tritan bottles, together with funds raised through our water dispenser services and refill solutions for restaurants, hotels, even locations and offices.

To date, we’ve donated 25 billion litres of clean drinking water, showing how mission-driven partnerships can turn everyday water use into lasting impact for communities worldwide.

In 2025, even more hotels joined Made Blue. They donate 100 litres of clean drinking water per overnight stay, based on the water they save together with their guests and Made Blue Foundation.

Last year our project in Nepal came to a successfull close. In a rare step for small scale community-based rural water projects, all water systems were insured against natural disasters.

We also launched our newest reusable bottle: the Aluminium Bottle Blue. Each bottle provides 100 litres of clean drinking, making it an ideal giveaway for visitors to meetings, events and hospitality venues.

Together with several Made Blue ambassadors, we visited our new project in Malawi and welcomed new colleagues to the team.

Nepal

Insurance coverage against natural disasters was introduced for water systems in Nepal, a rare step in community-based rural water infrastructure projects.

Malawi

Together with Made Blue ambassadors Quooker, i-team Global, TRIBE London Canary Wharf and MERKKwater we visited one of our newest projects in Malawi.

Bangladesh

We moved towards a results-based financing model with MaxTapwater, shifting the focus from building projects to delivering services that last.

Clean water for at least 10 years

When developing and funding water projects, we do everything to ensure they can provide clean drinking water for at least 10 years. To help make this possible, each project works with local maintenance committees, governments and in 2025 for the first time an insurance company, while users contribute a small fee towards maintenance and repairs.

We choose to work in relatively stable regions where there are no conflicts that could threaten the water supply. We also include a risk margin in our calculations in case something unexpectedly goes wrong.

LITER

We have already achieved so much clean drinking water in developing countries and that has more impact than you think:

Women have time to work again and children can go to school, giving them a better chance of a better life later. People no longer have to cut down trees to boil dirty water and it is no longer necessary to buy disposable bottles.

Please note: the counter reading in the report is lower, as the reporting period runs until 31 December instead of 22 March.

Contribute to our mission too

You can also contribute to our mission: clean drinking water for all.
That can be done in many more ways than you think, for example simply by shopping.
Or go out for dinner and have a glass of water.
