On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, the Gaia Green Awards were presented for the fifth time in Rotterdam Ahoy during the network meeting of Gastvrij Rotterdam. The Gaia Green Awards are awards for catering companies in the Netherlands and Belgium that stand out in the field of sustainability.

Beachclub BIRDS from The Hague not only won in the Beach Pavilions category, but also received the ‘Falco Eleonora Award 2020’. This award is presented to catering locations that excel in the field of sustainable Food Beverage.

The Audience Award went to Noorderlicht Café from Amsterdam. They received no less than 22.5% of the audience votes!

Elise Moeskops from Lastage unfortunately just missed out on the title of ‘Wine Woman of the Year’ but still serves the best water in the world!

COVID-19 has an enormous impact on the catering sector, but has also ensured that catering locations have taken a close look. Sustainability as a distinctive character is becoming increasingly important in this.

The independent professional jury consists of five representatives from the sector. Jury member Machiel van Dooren of Made Blue states that despite the COVID-19 crisis, sustainability is still high on the agenda: ‘COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the hospitality sector, but has also ensured that hospitality locations have re-examined their own concept. Sustainability as a distinguishing feature is becoming increasingly important in this’. Read the entire message on Biojournaal.
