Half the population<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Over 40% of Sierra Leone’s population has no access to clean drinking water, and 84% have to manage without proper sanitation. High mortality rates due to diseases caused by drinking contaminated water are unfortunately a very current problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children are particularly affected by these poor conditions. Health care facilities should be a safe place for people to seek help and get better – but it is precisely there that the risk of infection is high due to the lack of clean water available. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A better birth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our project focuses on improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in three existing health centres. This involves the construction of three solar powered wells and the provision of gender separated \u00e1nd wheelchair accessible latrines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The health centres will also receive new waste management facilities. Maternity wards will be expanded with all the facilities needed to safely and healthily guide mothers and their babies through childbirth. To provide additional assistance, health care providers and residents near these centres will also be trained in hygiene practices and waste management. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Safe sustenance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We hope to achieve sustainable healthcare, promote hygiene behaviour change and contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community with this project. We also hope to address issues around healthy and safe food. Contaminated water is a major cause of diarrhea and malnutrition, especially in children. Access to clean drinking water and hygienic environments will improve nutrient absorption and reduce the risk of infections. This will contribute to improved nutritional status, health and wellbeing of vulnerable groups, especially mothers and children. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Teamwork<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For this special project we joined forces with our ambassador One Hundred Restrooms<\/a>. You can already find our collaboration in their wellness hubs, where you can fill your water bottle and make a donation to Made Blue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to their annual contribution to our mission, they now directly support this initiative in Sierra Leone, for which we are incredibly grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will support 16,569 people, including pregnant women, children and caregivers, by providing access to clean water and improved hygiene conditions.
